New wing named in honor of Dr. Ken Ellwein

December 1, 2008

Orange Lutheran High School has named the new wing planned for the west side of its campus in honor of Dr. Ken Ellwein, the visionary leader who served as the school’s executive director from 1989 to 2008.

The Ellwein Center, made possible by gifts to the Vision & Values Campaign, will feature ten new classrooms as well as modern new wood shop and band rooms, all built around the existing gym. The weight room in the basement will also be expanded to accomodate mulitple athletic programs.

Dr. Ellwein joined Orange Lutheran in 1989 and oversaw a remarkable expansion in terms of both enrollment and stature. During his tenure, the school’s enrollment more than doubled, and Orange Lutheran gained a reputation for offering a unique experience combining top-level academic, arts, and athletic programs with a firm focus on Jesus Christ.

When construction is complete, the building will honor Dr. Ellwein, who also served as chairman of the Vision & Values Campaign, with a plaque. On it will be something he said often about Orange Lutheran: “If students are loved and cared for, why would they go anywhere else?”
